Welcome back to my fashion and beauty diary. Normally I would say please excuse my absence however my time away was much needed quality time with my son. Now that my family happiness bucket is full, I can now devote time to this online family. With that said, Hey y’all! How have you been!?! I’ve missed you.
January is usually such a maudlin month for a lot of people. Everyone is broke from the holidays. All the merriment and excitement is gone. Everyone’s credit cards are maxed out and most are just waiting for their W2 to make up the difference. I however am the exception. Not because I’m not broke, because believe me, I’m still broke. But January is my birthday month! Woop Woop!! Bring on the free samples and birthday reward food!
All joking aside, January is the rejuvenation month. I don’t know if that’s actually a thing or not but if it isn’t, I’m calling it now. When I think rejuvenation I immediately think, skincare. Skincare is so incredibly important at every stage of your life. Whether you are man or woman, the human skin is so delicate and must be treated as such. I figured I would share my ginger winter skincare routine. Now believe me when I tell you, I have tried A LOT of different products. The products I currently use are either tried and true for me or have been recommended by my very good friend who is an amazeballs aesthetician.
My morning routine always starts with a big ole 32oz jug of ice water. No, I don’t chug it like a frat boy on a keg stand. But I do drink it before I take my morning shower. Healing your skin really does start from the inside out. So drinking a metric shit ton of water in the morning lubricates your joints and begins the process of refreshing yourself for the day. I then grab a shower making sure I use an in shower lotion, specifically Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion. In shower lotion has helped me tremendously through the harsh winter months. My skin stays soft and hydrated all day and I can definitely tell if I go a day without it. For face wash I use Neutrogena Hydro Boost hydrating cleansing gel. This product was a recommendation from my aesthetician friend. I noticed as the air became dryer, my regular face wash was drying my face out like Sponge Bob Square Pants in the hot summer sun. (Man I have been hanging out with my 10 year old too much). This gel based formula boosts hydration levels leaving your skin soft and supple.
Once out of the shower the real skincare ritual begins. I immediately go in to add my favorite toner. I’ve tried several toners but they were all so harsh on my delicate ginger skin. Once I found the Pixi by Petra Glow Tonic I never looked back. This glow tonic received the teenVogue acne award for 2017 and for good reason. Even at the almost age (because I’m not trying to age any faster) of 34, I get breakouts. My ginger skin also comes with massive pores, so breakouts are inevitable. This tonic toner however helped me with a major breakthrough with my acne. My skin is completely different after starting this toner. Next I use Olay Regenerist Micro Sculpting Serum, mainly around areas I want to avoid wrinkles, so my crows feet area, under eye, and smile line areas. To finish off my morning face I use Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Moisturizer. This also has the hyaluronic acid the Neutrogena Hydro Boost face cleanser has, packing the final punch of quench my ginger skin loves. My bare faced skin has an actual glow by the time I’m done with this routine.
For additional body hydration, I’ve recently been using a product I was gifted at The Curvy Fashionista Style Expo called Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. This cream is infused with Guarana extract, Cupuacu Butter, Acai Oil and Coconut oil. It claims to visibly tighten the skin of the area applied with the caffeine rich extracts listed. Thus far I can report back this. I have no idea if it lifts my butt or not but it smells like heaven in a bottle and that is enough for me. Never have I smelled a lotion or cream that was so heavenly. At $45.00 for a large bottle that’s a bit pricey but to sample it they have a $10 and $20.00 bottle. They definitely have my money for life though.
My evening routine is pretty similar to my day but with a slight and very important product that I will swear by until the day I die. First I remove my make up with a makeup remover towelette. I actually like the Equate Night-Time Soothing makeup remover wipes in Lavender. They take off all of my makeup with one towelette and don’t irritate my skin. I then cleanse my face using my Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleansing Gel, Pixi by Petra Glow Tonic, Olay Regenerist Serum and my holy grail night time moisturizer. L’occitane Peony Perfecting Cream. This face cream completely changed my skin. This face cream is a thicker consistency hence why I use it at night. The very first time I used this product I noticed a significant glow in my skin. This product is ideal for correcting complexion and imperfections, hydration of the skin and illuminating your skin. My face feels like butter after I apply this night moisturizer. At $44.00 a bottle its expensive however I only go through 2 bottles a year so, at literally $.24 a day, I think my face is worth it.
These two are my extra credit that you only need to do once a week or when necessary. The first is for when I’m being lazy one night and don’t complete my skincare routine. I’m human. Some nights I’m just dog tired. All I can muster is a makeup remover towelette and that’s it. On nights like that, in the morning I will do an extra face wash of Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash Scrub. This helps get all the icky stuff I slept in last night off. It also helps kill any potential breakouts I may have caused.
Another secret weapon and maybe my favorite is the Neutrogena Microdermabrasion System. Now this system is not an actual microdermabrasion system. It’s more like an extra strength exfoliation system. I can’t stress enough how important exfoliation is. Just using this system once a week (self care Sunday anyone) provides amazing result. My skin feels smoother, softer, and gives me an extra glow. My makeup applies smoother and more even.
I hope you all found this article helpful in your winter skincare search. The key to soft winter skin is hydration, hydration, hydration.
Until next time. Hugs, Kisses and All That Jazz,
